Distance estimation tool
Print out this distance estimation tool to determine the Overt Reaction Distance (ORD) and the Flight Initiation Distance (FID) by following the steps described under the "Observe coyotes" tab. For the distance estimation tool to work, you need to make sure to print it at 100% scale. You can do that by selecting Print -> More settings -> Scale. If you are wondering if it worked, make sure that the larger box (20 m) is 2 cm in length. You will need to cut out each box before using the distance estimation tool. We recommend printing on card paper if possible or gluing the paper to a piece of carboard, such as a cereal box.  Cut out the squares using an exacto or similar sharp-pointed knife.

If you do not have the distance evaluation tool with you, you can also try to estimate distances using the technique described on this website: https://www.mathsisfun.com/measure/estimate-distance.html
Make sure that you practice both techniques before starting to patrol for coyotes.
