Volunteer requirements

In order to participate in the program, volunteers must meet the following requirements:
  • Feel confident approaching coyotes in residential areas while maintaining awareness and safety of both coyotes and people
  • Sign waivers of liability
  • Follow COVID restrictions, including wearing a mask when within 2 m of others
  • Use the tools and techniques associated with the program
  • Record data promptly on cloud-based forms
  • Try to commit for the duration of the program (Feb - May) each year
  • Complete the training quiz and obtain a grade of 100%
  • Be willing to patrol at least once a week, corresponding to a time commitment of as little as 20 minutes (though more time would be welcome). In treatment neighbourhoods, it would be ideal to offer additional time for responses to bold coyotes if any are necessary.
If you would like to volunteer for the project, please review the neighbourhoods map here to determine whether you live in or near a target neighbourhood. You may contact coyotes@ualberta.ca for help contacting a target community. Note that most program correspondence will be channeled through designated leaders in the participating communities.
